Clean, airy, with a well-appointed kitchen, we had everything we needed for our stay. We love to cook on our coastal weekends, and have a box of kitchen items that we often use to compensate for below average kitchen tools and wine glasses. But our box of goodies was unnecessary in this home! Would absolutely return to sit on the deck and enjoy the wide view.

  The Mermaid home was perfect for us. The 3 bed 3.5 bath house was a perfect layout for us and our friends who brought their college aged daughter. There are two bedrooms and two en-suite bathrooms on the lower level and a bedroom and en-suite bath with a private entrance off the main house.
  The kitchen was fully equipped with everything we needed and had quality cookware. We’ve rented quite a few houses over the years and this one definitely ranks #1 for cooking supplies and dishware.
  The views were amazing from every room. While this house is not ocean front, the views were stunning! We spent time on the deck sipping wine and enjoying beautiful sunsets.
  The house was extremely clean. For me, this is one of the most important criteria. Everything was clean from the bathrooms, throughout the kitchen and the rest of the house.
  We will definitely rent the Mermaid house again. Thanks for sharing your property with us.

The location near the oceanside walking paths is another amenity for the property. The overall cleanliness was very good. The owners should consider updating the sheets and pillows on the beds as they are somewhat stained and lifeless.   We enjoyed our stay at this property and would rent it again in a heartbeat. It's spacious and the floor plan is simply perfect. Every room has a view of the ocean. Plenty of window seating in the kitchen, family room and the casita. The casita is a separate unit from the main house. The house is a bit dated but furnishings are classic and comfortable. The kitchen is well equipped with top notch appliances. It's a short walk to the ocean trail that stretches for miles. The rental company was very helpful and courteous.

  We always love coming to Sea Ranch and this is our second stay at the Mermaid House. Pros: The house has a great layout for extended family. Our family stayed in the main house and my in-laws stayed in the room outside that is connected to the house. Kitchen is well appointed and has every cooking tool And utensil you would need to prepare a meal. We loved using the IPad and Sonos speakers provided throughout the day. We also enjoyed all of the lovely books throughout the home. This house is in a great location, quick access to the main trail along the bluff and less than 5 minute walk to Smugglers Cove.
  
  There are a lot of positives when you stay at this house but I think I would like to try another house in the future and here’s why... Decks were extremely dirty when we arrived. They should have been hosed down before hand, which we had to do. There were a ton of ants in the kitchen and in the downstairs bathrooms (I know they can be bad this time of year so maybe that’s unavoidable). The house is listed as “no pets” bet we kept finding black dog hair everywhere. There was a lot of mold in the grout of the bathroom showers. We stayed at the house for 5 days and in my opinion, there wasn’t adequate cleaning supplies to maintain the house. A hard floor vacuum or better kitchen broom (not at straw broom) would have been extremely helpful.
  
  I did speak with the manager from Sea Ranch Vacation Rentals, during our stay and she was very sweet and helpful, as much as she could be—I do appreciate that. However, for the amount that is being charged, I have higher expectations and standards that the home should be in.

  We loved Mermaid. We had our 2 grown sons visit for a couple of nights and the house was plenty big. Normally, my wife and I don't need 3 bedrooms, but with the Tesla charger in the garage, we are likely to come again. For any EV owner, the Tesla charger is a mobile connector plugged into a NEMA 14-50 outlet, so any EV should be able to utilize it with their own mobile connector. The owner simply asks that you charge between 12 and 7am, as rates are better. VERY generous and appreciated in this remote coastal location. Bedrooms are downstairs and common living areas/kitchen are upstairs with great views. Very interesting house with very few perpendicular walls. I was impressed with the kitchen and it's available utensils. How many places include a Thermoworks "Thermapen" for food temperature reading? Overall a comfortable and impressive house.

  This is a really nice home. Great layout. Quite comfortable with nice open views. However the water smelled and tasted really odd. I've never encountered that at any sea ranch home so I bought bottled water. And just an FYI the master bedroom bed although new is extremely firm. Like rock hard firm. The guest bedroom seemed to be a bit softer. This home is in really good shape and was impeccably clean which is a bonus. I really loved all the art and sculptures along with many books. It's really felt like a well kept home and not a sterile rental. I would definitely stay here again.

  We rented for two weeks in August -- a Senior Couple and their two children and the children's spouses and one child, our first grandchild. The house fit us perfectly with separate bedrooms and bathrooms and an extra half bath. Easy walk to the ocean, tidepools and to watch the sea lions and cubs. The blue and white water views were enjoyed immensely.
  
  In the first few days we compiled a list of little things that could be easily taken care of. A toilet that ran frequently, dinning room metal chair legs that scraped on the tile and the oven broiler that did not work turned these ideas into the rental office. All were taken care of quickly, except for the broiler. The hot tub, though, would shut down and this took several days to fix and the owner gave a refund for this. Somehow, the screen doors were in upside down so that they scraped when you opened them. I took them out and reinserted them right side up and they worked great. Perhaps the owners should do a walk through sometime and check things out.
  
  But, we do not regret renting it. It was just a little short of perfect. At the rental agency, Julia was the star, giving attention to our needs and reports in a personable and professional manner.

  The Mermaid House has one of the best layouts of any comparable Beach rental that we looked at.   Three adult couples enjoyed the Mermaid House for eight nights in July 2016. The home features three spacious king-bed Master Suites, and two of those bedrooms have gas fireplaces. Each of the three Master Suites has it's own well appointed bathroom and shower. The home was ideal for a comfortable relaxing week. The location is really spectacular, merely 150 yards from the bluff overlooking the cliffs, breaking waves and basking Harbor Seals at Green Cove. The bluff hiking trail is less than a minute walk away, providing several miles of oceanside trail for biking, walking and jogging. Mermaid House is luxurious with a gourmet kitchen, spacious living and dining areas and top notch furnishings and amenities.

  You have to drive past the home to get your key in Gualala which is another 10 minutes north.Sea Ranch is basically a developer who bought 10 miles of coast and the homes are in small subdivisions on the ridges. It was freaking beautiful Sun was hot but the air was cool and crisp. Seals watching is near the house also. House was well appointed with everything you could possibly need. The home has viking kitchen products and is very good for cooking. The king bed in the master was very comfortable with down pillows. Hot tub was a four position and very nice. Stop at Oliver's high end grocery store in Santa Rosa if you are coming through AWESOME STORE!! The coast is right outside the house across the street and you can walk for miles on a trail. They don't use a fabric softener with their sheets or towels,if you like not having that smell you win if you like having a fresh smell bring some. It is a remote feeling home with you and the ocean and lovey trails everywhere, The rec center is just north with a big pool, it is poorly marked and the road is right before a big white barn. Great place. We loved sea ranch. Once you get use to driving highway 1 and the time it takes it is wonderful. Farmer market in Gualala on Friday. IT was great local produce so unbelievable. relaxing super great place to take it down and just love California for what it is, magical.

  I've been renting in Sea Ranch for 30 years and have stayed in numerous homes! This home offers 3 couples complete privacy in 3 master bedrooms - one attached to the home yet not accessible from the inside of the home. Beds were comfortable, linens and towels were okay. The kitchen is the best ever! Truly! Equipped with everything and large! The TV and sound system are great and the main house rooms have shades to pull in case you want to watch daytime movies and need the reflection blocked for the windows (a huge prob in many rentals!). Reverse floor plan with little private outside space/deck with ocean views which other homes offer. Overall, a terrific home!
  One suggestion: don't charge the full hefty cleaning fee if renters don't use the 3rd outside studio bedroom! Just to be honest and fair!

Kitchen was amazing and up to date. Hot tub was clean. Our only minor issue were some ants and the pickup key drop off required at the actual rental office (about 12 miles away) due to the front doors locking mechanism. It would have been nice to simply leave the keys there and check out. Otherwise, highly recommended and I would stay here once again!

  We arrived on a Friday, estimating three hours from San Francisco. It took five and a half hours, due to traffic. But when we pulled into the driveway, we were totally pleased. The kitchen was a dream with two sinks, one for prep and one for clean up. The Viking oven and range was the best! The main part of the house was upstairs, with windows across the entire floor. Great views and a very private feel. Downstairs the bedrooms were clean with comfortable beds, a huge closet and bath off the master bedroom. The adjacent suite was perfect for my brother. The weather was typical coastal fog the whole weekend, but we were inside a lot. The walk along the bluff was scenic and well worn. We would like to come back in spring or fall to see the sun.

  We 3 couples get together every Memorial Day. This is a long tradition. We treat the properies we stay in as if they were our own. Some have had cheap appliances, or uncomfortable beds, outdated furnishings or chipped tile. Mermaid was perfect (except for the door handle falling off but that's so very minor). The furnishings were top end as was the kitchen (and that stove!). We noticed the heated floors and enjoyed the fireplace, the grill and the hot-tub. It may have been our best experience. At one time 3 of us were using the wi-fi, on our laptops, scattered throughout the house (pictures to be uploaded). Every bathroom had something special (walk-in, soaking tub, or multijets)and the beds were sooo comfortable. Please thank the owners for allowing us to share this remarkable dwelling for out visit to Sea Ranch.

  We took our two young children and this was certainly a wonderful family home, where the kids could watch TV or play at the dining room table while we had coffee in the breakfast nook off the kitchen, or read on the long window seats in the living room, or go to the middle (entry) level and read/talk in the elegant/comfy chairs - and I haven't even mentioned the bedroom sanctuaries or hot tub. The house seems even more suited for two or three couples who enjoy the finer things in life and enjoy a little pampering. It's fair to say no expense was spared in the design and decorating/furnishing of this home. Everything is of the highest quality, and both bedrooms are like masters (the separate-entrance 3rd bedroom which we did not use appears to also be a roomy master) with LOTS of room. The house has perfect interior lighting, a high-end telescope for whale-watching, and multiple outside spaces to spread out and enjoy different takes on the surroundings. The view is excellent, straight out and both up and down the coast. The only "issue" we had, and I had read a review mentioning the same, was that the window coverings are almost transparent from the outside looking in at night - an issue with the bedrooms being on the first floor. If you are looking at The Sea Ranch, you already know how wonderful the area is; most homes are beach-bungalow style which are quite rustic but comfortable - Mermaid House feels like Santa Barbara-luxury on the rough and beautiful north coast. The owners have crafted a wonderful experience for those lucky enough to rent this home.

  Lovely spot and everything was great -- we discovered late the night of our arrival that the hot tub didn't heat, which was extremely disappointing. However, a quick phone call in the morning and it was ready for the second evening. It made us very glad we'd decided to stay for 3 nights instead of two.
  
  It could have used a few more kitchen implements, but was generally really well-stocked, comfortable and pleasant!

  The Mermaid House was spectacular! The furnishings were beautiful, the three master bedrooms worked out perfectly and every amenity was easy to use. The location made for wonderful hikes along the trails every morning where we saw deer, bobcat and seals on the beach! We'll be back!
