Kenber House

Unit 24... Lot 67; TOT ID# 1624. A traditional Sea Ranch home, the Kenber house was designed by Don Jacobs and finished in 1985. Very well maintained.. Ideally located on the unspoiled Sea Ranch meadow a short walk from the popular Shell beach and One Eyed Jack’s playground, bocce ball court and picnic area, it is perfectly positioned for seal and whale watching, beachcombing and the soothing sound of the sea with a peek-a-boo blue water view. It includes full internet service at no additional charge. The house has forced air central heating.

The Kenber house includes a cedar paneled master suite with a king bed and attached large bathroom with oversized shower. A sliding door leads on to the deck with a spacious hot tub just feet from the door – ideal for star gazing. An outside table seats six comfortably. There is a Weber barbecue.

A second bedroom includes a queen bed and two twin built in bunks for overflow. A second full bathroom next to the second bedroom includes a tub and shower. Stairs lead to a loft with a 47 inch flat screen television which has Apple TV and YouTube TV and Netflix provided. The loft has a full futon.
The loft overlooks a great room completely paneled in western red cedar, a vaulted hip-beamed cedar ceiling and a very well equipped kitchen. The great room seats up to 10 at the dining table and around the efficient and attractive wood stove. Equipped with an oversized window seat looking out over the unspoiled meadow, the great room is an ideal place to relax and enjoy the company of family and friends.

The kitchen includes all the appliances you will need if you like to cook – a heavy duty mixer, food processor, slow cooker/ deep fryer and a gas five burner continuous grid DCS cooktop. The owners maintain a full set of kitchen basics – herbs, spices, flour, sugar – just replace what you use. There is also a washer and dryer located in a separate utility room. Please note that a skylight has been installed in the loft. and provides excellent ventilation when needed.

An attached cottage is reserved for the owners’ use – however, the owners never occupy it when the main house is rented.

The Kenber house welcomes children and pets. It is ideal for a couple, a family, two couples or even two families – its location, its amenities and its warm and comfortable appearance make it an excellent choice for a weekend, a week or longer. Bed linens and towels are NOT provided, bring your own or rent them from Beach Rentals.

  This is a beautiful, classic Sea Ranch house with charm and warmth. The location, a short walk from Shell Beach, can't be beat.   The Kenber House has a lovely layout and is in a great location to the beaches. We enjoyed our stay, but for two things. All of the mattresses in general are on the hard side. The twin bunks, in particular, were especially hard with no give. Our kids abandoned them completely after two nights of uncomfortable sleeps and waking up with sore backs. The second issue was the spider infestation. They were found throughout the house, but the bulk were in the bedrooms and master bath. The twin bunk room was the worst, with us killing about 30 of them within a 10 minute period one evening. While we ignored a number of spiders that we saw, it would not be an exaggeration to say we killed at least 200 within the week. Upon check out, I mentioned this to the woman working the property office. She said that ants and spiders could be found in the houses during this time of year. I indicated that this was more than just a few spiders, that this was an infestation that should be addressed. She seemed to blow me off, and responded by saying that she knew all of her 80 rentals.. not sure what that meant, but the delivery was such that I took it to mean that she didn't believe it to be the issue I was suggesting it to be. We were one of five related families renting houses this week through Beach Rentals, and no one else had any unusual bug problems.

  We enjoyed another wonderful quick vacation at this house. Even though ab season is closed this year we decided to come and enjoy the other things Sea Ranch has to offer. We took longs walks (in all directions from the house everyday.)
  The owner might consider getting new blankets, existing ones are looking a little tired.
  
  We were happy to see that the skylight/window has been replaced in the loft. We were able to sleep in a little longer as the shade worked well.
  
  The kitchen is well appointed with all appliances and tools needed by a chef. We always bring our own knives and nonstick skillet to make potstickers. Other than that we're very happy to cook in the kitchen.

  This lovely home was perfect for our family of 14 (10 adults and 4 children) to gather for late afternoon hot tubbing and dinner. The kitchen is large enough for 2 or 3 cooks at a time and is well equipped with everything one could need.   This is one of my favorite houses at Sea is not big but works for a small family and it has a huge window on the meadow that's better than a big screen tv (they have one of those too but it's upstairs.) I wish they would fix the upstairs skylight as it vented the house very comfortably. The kitchen is laid out really well if a little sparsely furnished. The house is also close to trails and dog friendly (yay). It's one I always return to.

  Wonderful location within walking distance to Shell Beach. It was our second stay at the house. Layout of house has large public/sharing space with living, dining and open kitchen while two bedrooms are private and second floor loft is open to public space. The built in window seating is fantastic. Home feels spacious and expansive. Large deck and hot tub are a nice amenity. We would definitely stay here again. Only drawback was the operable skylight in the loft would not open. On two hot days the loft space wasn't habitable since air couldn't escape. Last year it worked so the house was much more pleasant.

  This house is in a fabulous location. Since we were bringing children with us, we wanted to be able to walk to the beach instead of driving our car down to it. This property is easily within walking distance to a beautiful beach and to the walking trail along the bluff. Inside, the children had the run of the loft, and we all enjoyed time in front of the large picture window that looked over the meadow. There is a lot of wildlife to observe. And the hot tub was fabulous, also.

The boys also enjoyed the close proximity to the Sea Ranch park. Kenber House has great decks which we definitely made use of throughout our stay. The description that the views of the ocean are "peeks" is correct - the primary view is of the expansive meadow. But we didn't find the lack of a direct ocean view at all diminishing of the house's charm and peacefulness and enjoyed watching a herd of deer graze in the meadow multiple times each day. And when we wanted to gaze at the ocean, we lounged up against the dining room side of the window seat for the ocean view. We found the house lovely, built in the classic Sea Ranch style. Huge kudos to the owners for attention to details to make their guests comfortable and feel welcome. For example, there are a variety of books to read, assortment of music, comfortable furnishings and great photographs adorning the walls. Additionally, I'd like to say a major THANK YOU for a range with real BTU's and a large assortment of pots, pans and kitchen tools, not to mention a well stocked pantry of herbs and spices as well as extensive tableware. All in all, a great time in a lovely home that will definitely be on our list of "return to" Sea Ranch houses.   I agree with so many of the other reviews - great location, lovely meadow, wonderful kitchen (aprons even!). A few things could use updating - the king bed is not comfortable, the toilets very low to the ground (difficult for use by us baby boomer types), the sofa is old. Also you have to like brown tile - there's a lot of it! Some very cool architecture that you probably only find on older Sea Ranch houses. As always, Beach Rentals great to work with.

  We have always been fascinated by The Sea Ranch, based on a couple of drive-bys many years ago. This year we found the motivation to rent there when we spotted mention of a specific home on a friend's Facebook page. The timing was perfect, as we were already going to be in California. The rental process was easy, and the rental personnel were friendly and very helpful, and we occupied the house in late afternoon. It was all that we hoped it would was in a beautiful coastal setting, the interior was extremely comfortable, it had all the amenities renters desire (entertainment center, wi-fi, music, a full array of appliances, and a fantastic view). We are not done with our visits!

  All and all the stay was great. The location of the property was perfect, the house was cool and clean and the kitchen was fully stocked with tools and dishes which was a huge help when cooking group dinners. The only disappointment was that the tiles in front of the fire place are really slippery. We all had socks on as it's winter and everyone kept slipping which is really dangerous. I would suggest a rug runner so someone doesn't fall and hurt themselves. I slipped and the only way to catch my fall was the cast iron fireplace that had been burning logs for two straight days. Needless to say, I burned and scarred my hand pretty bad and they didn't even have a first aid kit.

  Our group of six spent Mother's Day weekend at Kenber House in Sea Ranch. We are a couple in their 60's, a couple in their 30's and their two children ages 3 and 5. Kenber House turned out to be the perfect get away location for our group. The home was designed by Don Jacobs a well-know Sea Ranch architect. If you like to cook this house has a well equipped kitchen, lots of dishes, glassware, serving pieces and silverware. You won't have to run the dishwasher after every meal to have what you need on hand. The home is comfortably furnished and sits in a beautiful location a short walk from the beach and bluff trailhead. There is a long window seat that makes a great place for reading a book or taking a nap. The bedrooms have comfortable beds, lots of choices of pillow types and everything in the house is clean and well maintained. The master bath has a large shower and double sinks. The second bath also has double sinks and a tub/shower combination. The children in our group enjoyed flying a kite in the large backyard. We all enjoyed the hot tub, viewing the stars, and barbecuing. Kenber House was a relaxing place to stay and we plan to visit it again in the future.

  In 30+ years of renting houses at Sea Ranch, I've experienced a spectrum of homes: some worth returning to, and some I'd rather forget. This house is in my top 3 houses I've stayed in, ever. If you're any type of cook you'll appreciate the well designed and appointed kitchen with heavy duty pans and full array of tools and serve ware. The house is not super spacious--its on the cozy side for 6 people but it's so well laid out there was plenty of room for all. There is a beautiful big meadow for your dog friends too. Lastly, we were very impressed by the efficiency of the the passive solar design! I can't wait to return to Kenber House.

  Just got back from a week at Kenber house. We loved it - there isn't an ocean view but it didn't matter because the meadow was peaceful. We'd definitely stay there again. Several have mentioned and I agree I liked the very well equipped kitchen - stove was awesome. Beds are comfy, lots of pillows. Plenty of space, the layout of the house is great. I'm picky about vacation rentals too!! It was very clean, the only thing I'd mentioned - and it's nitpicking - is there are corners and grout that could use a thorough deep cleaning. It may just be b/c the carpet and tile are old...but let me stress that this was just a very minor thing.

  Kenber house was great for us (couple + 2 little kids). Nice size and layout, good kitchen, comfortable beds. The kids loved the hot tub, I loved the fireplace, and I'd definitely go back. One issue was that there was a drip in skylight in the master bedroom, which unfortunately dripped on my head in the middle of the night. I told the property manager, and I'm sure they'll fix it soon.

  We had an out of town relative come to visit, so we took him to the Kenber House. My husband, dog and I have stayed in Sea Ranch numerous times, but this was our first time at Kenber. We were very pleased with the layout of the house, the views, the cleanliness, and the whole experience. There was plenty of wood provided for the woodstove, and more plates and cutlery than you could ever use in one weekend. When we left, I forgot that we had the "doggie sheet" in our car, and I called the rental company to let them know I would mail it back, but they graciously told me to just keep it until our next visit. So, all in all, it was a great experience and we will definitely stay at the Kenber house again.
